Delivery Hero explores partial sale of FoodPanda operations
Delivery Hero, the Berlin-based food delivery company, is reportedly considering a significant move - selling part of its Asian operations, the popular Foodpanda brand.
Here are the key takeaways:
The potential buyer might be Singapore’s Grab, renowned for its ride-sharing and food delivery services, who could shell out around one billion euros ($1.07B) for this deal. Grab is yet to comment.
The operations up for grabs is the FoodPanda brand in Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Delivery Hero's CEO, Niklas Ostberg, hinted at Asia as a promising area for further investment just last month.
While striving for growth and profitability, Delivery Hero managed to turn a profit for the first half of this year, a significant improvement from a loss of 323 million euros the previous year.
Grab isn't in financial trouble either. The company recorded a revenue of $567M in their last quarter, with a break-even point approaching. Most of their income comes from their food delivery service, but their ride-sharing business is also growing steadily.
