Space and defense startup, True Anomaly, has successfully secured $100M in fresh funding, shining a spotlight on the continued interest in space-oriented ventures.
- Participating Pockets: The funding round was led by Riot Ventures, alongside participation from Eclipse, ACME Capital, Menlo Ventures, Narya, 645 Ventures, Rocketship.vc, Champion Hill Ventures, and FiveNine Ventures.
- Company Mission: True Anomaly, formed by four ex- US Air Force and US Space Force members in 2022 namely Even Rogers, Tom Nichols, Daniel Brunski, and Kyle Zakrzewski, is addressing a crucial void in space situational awareness and defensive operations via both software and hardware solutions. CEO Even Rogers has identified a significant “information asymmetry” between the U.S. and its space rivals, which he aims to level out with Jackal and Mosaic.
- Featured Product: The line of spacecraft dubbed “Jackals” – autonomous, equipped with sensors and cameras – are designed for rendezvous and proximity operations. Jackals gather data on space objects, enabling surveillance and tracking. The integrated operating platform “Mosaic,” developed by the company, is designed to work with the Jackals eventually.
- Achievements: In its inaugural year, the company expanded to a 35,000-square foot facility in Centennial, Colorado, and doubled its staff to 100+ employees. In September, the U.S. Space Force awarded True Anomaly a $17.4M contract to develop space domain awareness capabilities.
True Anomaly was given regulatory approval in August to conduct non-Earth imaging and to demonstrate in-space rendezvous proximity operations with the two spacecraft.
With an immense technical challenge at hand, all eyes from Silicon Valley to Washington will be closely watching how True Anomaly’s demonstration mission unfolds.
